James & Kerrie are a husband and wife team living in central London. They specialise in Natural, Documentary wedding photography and capture your special day with stunning photographs. Specialising in iconic venues and outdoor spaces across London and the South East this couple provide a combination of documentary style storytelling along with spectacular signature shots fit for a royal wedding. We caught up with James and Kerrie to ask how they first got into photography?
James has always owned a camera & enjoyed photography as a hobby, when he was backpacking around Australia he loved to capture his adventures along the way. In 2012, we went on holiday to Turkey, on a day trip to the Dalaman River, a photographer came along and snapped photos of us and we purchased the CD off him and was blown away by the photos! They were so natural & relaxed, we don’t really like having photos taken of ourselves so to see that the photographer had taken images we loved got James thinking he would like to learn to how to create beautiful relaxed photos for others to enjoy. In 2013, friends asked James if he would photograph their wedding in Italy, he asked Kerrie if she would like to assist him on the day as his second shooter. James taught Kerrie how to use her camera and she practised, practised, practised! After shooting that first wedding, we knew this is what we wanted to with our lives!
Can you tell us a little about your style?
Our style of photography is very relaxed and natural. We believe in capturing timeless images and telling the story of your day. We like to document the day as it unfolds, we may move our couples to maximise beautiful light, but we like to be as unobtrusive as possible. We love to spend some time alone with our couples on the day, we don’t like to overly pose, one of our signature shots is having our couples simply walking hand in hand and enjoying their day!
What do you enjoy most about capturing a couples big day?
Creating beautiful images that our couples can pass down to generations is our passion. The lovely feedback we get when we deliver our couples galleries is priceless!! It makes us so happy that they love their photos, we get told over & over that all the guests say how professional and friendly we are, and it’s like having an extra two friends with them on the day.
What advice would you give to couples when looking for their perfect wedding capture?
We actually did a Facebook live on this very subject last month! A good tip is to ask family & friends if they can recommend a photographer. Or ask your venue if they have a list of suppliers they recommend. Always do your research, make sure you like the photographer’s style of work, read reviews and ask lots of questions!
How do you help couples to relax and feel at ease in front of the camera?
We believe it’s so important to like your photographers, not only for their work, but their personality too. They are going to be with you on one of the most important days of your life so you need to have a connection. We love to meet our couples for a coffee and get to know them, we can help with advice from timelines to family photos. If you can, we always advise to book a pre wedding/engagement shoot ahead of your day, that way you can get advice & tips off your photographers and get used to be in front of the camera which we know can be daunting sometimes!
What do you do for fun outside of photography?
We love to travel, Greece is our favourite destination, we go as often as we can, Kerrie even speaks a little Greek! James is a big foodie, he likes to visit different restaurants & markets to try different foods. We try to do a European City break when we get a chance, Barcelona has been our favourite so far, we would love to return!
James and Kerrie love nothing more than creating natural and unique photos that capture the happiness and fun of your wedding day. They also have 5 star reviews from thier clients commenting on their super friendly attitude, passion, professionalism and the end result being photographs that they love and can cherish forever! So guys lets end the interview with some just for fun questions!
Describe yourself in 3 words…
James: Funny, geeky, creative
Kerrie: Genuine, happy, determined
If you could be any fictional character who would it be and why?
James: Superman, he’s fast, strong and he can fly, sounds perfect to me.
Kerrie: Lucy Pevensie from the Nania Chronicles, i’d love to go through the wardrobe and meet Aslan & have tea with Mr Tumnus!
Who is your favourite band or artist?
James: That’s a tough one as I enjoy all kinds of genres, but if I had to pick one, I would have to say Pink Floyd, they’re both mellow and have some great guitar riffs.
Kerrie: So difficult to choose! I’m a huge John Denver fan though so have to say him, his voice gets me every time.
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you want with you?
James: A knife to cook and make things with, photo of my family & a Guitar
Kerrie: A solar powered radio, notebook & pen
