She has a real love for film photography and this influence can be seen stunningly recreated in her digital work. We caught up with the lovely Joelle to ask her a little about her approach to capturing weddings…
How did you first get into photography?
Around the age of 12 I saved up and brought a digital camera and it was love at first sight. There was a fair few photographers in the family so it was definitely in the genetics!
So photography has always been a passion of yours, can you tell us a little about how you developed your style?
Generally I adore working in film and love candid, documentary style photography. The same principle applies to my wedding photography, except I mainly shoot digitally as I worry about something happening to the film
What do you enjoy most about capturing a couples big day?
It's such an honour! I do love doing it, it's such a happy and wonderful day for everyone involved and you get to be a part of that and capture it. It's brilliant!
What advice would you give to couple when looking for their perfect wedding capture?
Be honest with the photographer let them know exactly what you are after, show them similar pictures, etc. Just like everyone else, we can't read minds and unless something is verbalised to us we simply will never know what you are wanting. Communication is key.
How do you help couples to relax and feel at ease in front of the camera?
I let them go about their day and document them in doing so! People are most relaxed when they don't know they are having their picture taken!
What keeps you busy outside of photography? what do you do for fun?
I'm a working artist/entrepreneur. I mainly draw, silversmith an do ceramics. I also tattoo and play guitar.
So artist and entrepreneur Joelle certainly has bags of talent and an artistic eye! Giving her a special little something when it comes to producing beautiful and honest photographs of your wedding day that have a cool retro and slight vintage edge to them. We asked her some ‘just for fun’ questions and started with asking her to describe herself in just three words;
this is a hard question! Quirky, quiet and thoughtful?
Who is your favourite band or artist?
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you want with you?
My guitar, iPod and my bed?
I can’t deny when I saw the answer “my bed” I knew Joelle was a woman after my own heart! And on a side note if you are a fan of travel photography check out Joelle’s website as this was a huge highlight for me, her work is truly beautiful and she has a definite skill for capturing candid images.
