For me, alcohol does not signify a good time, being surrounded by your nearest and dearest is way more important, which may be the sole reasoning into the idea of having a dry wedding, to have everyone come together, fully in the moment without alcohol. A dry wedding will certainly remove any risks of accidental drunken knocks, stumbles or falls for you as a couple and for your guests if alcohol is removed, resulting in a less rowdy atmosphere if you do want your day to be more chilled and relaxed.
This also takes away the risk of guests/family members or even you & your partner being half cut before your day has begun! Totally understand the excitement of the day may be overwhelming, however when it comes to your photographer taking group shots or couple portraits, it can be difficult to get natural relaxed candid shots with eyes open especially if a little too much alcohol has been consumed early in the day. Lets also consider the cost of how much weddings are typically nowadays, it would be a crucial part of the day to actually remember your wedding day especially with how much you may have spent on it!
Invitations- Initially, i would state clearly in your wedding invitations that this will be an alcohol free wedding. If you're struggling with how to put this into your invitation, a simple note of 'we have decided to have an alcohol free wedding so we kindly ask for you to not bring any alcohol beverages to our special day to ensure a safe, mindful celebration'. Simple and to the point. The fact that you have clearly stated not to 'BYOB' is a way of taking away that risk that guests may have already considered which is to 'still bring alcohol along'. Your guests, to be respectful, should value your decision and not do this as there may be a risk of legal altercations with the venue or wedding insurances. Plus, for all your guests know, your venue may not have a license to serve alcohol anyway!
Get Creative With Mocktails- Why not consider having signature mocktails for your choice of drinks! Name them, whatever you wish, get creative! Maybe you and your partner could sample some mocktails at home to then create on your wedding day! Top points for the brightest, prettiest looking drink! There are plenty of choices out there, in regards to alcohol alternative from non alcoholic wine, beer, cider and prosecco, in fact we did our own podcast on dry weddings, if you're interested, give it a watch for some dry wedding inspo babes!
Good Food-If its within budget, why not invest more into your choice of food for your wedding day. Maybe a sample tasting menu which may exceed the typical 3 course meal on your wedding day. Even something like adding a sweet cart, doughnut wall or even a food truck for when your guests decide to leave. Nothing is better than a belly full of food at the end of an evening!
Entertainment- Make sure that your entertainment for your wedding is one to not forget! If you are having a live band, wedding singer or DJ, be sure to make sure that they have upbeat songs to get everybody on the dancefloor! I would advise speaking directly with your choice of entertainment to make sure that if you have any songs suggestions you want playing, any particular songs for particular times of the day, that they know first hand that's what you want and when and if it's doable!
