Hi there! I am John and I am a passionate, friendly, experienced and committed wedding photographer based in East Sussex.Photography has played a massive part in my life, ever since I received my first polaroid camera aged 9!
Since graduating from university I have developed and grown a photography business focussed on wedding photography and I am able to cope with the most demanding of situations and enjoy challenges that most would shy from.
Plain and simple I just love photography. I love cameras and lenses and all the other bits and bobs too. I love meeting people and freeze-framing their lives. I love the challenges of adverse weather, tricky light and children that won't smile on cue! Its what I do and I wouldn't change a thing!
I am a storyteller. Creatively capturing the happiness and emotion of special occasions is my talent. I visually record things that you are probably to busy to notice, and if you want the 'wow' picture we can create that too!
There are many photographers around but I am different. I do my research, I arrive early, I leave late, I care and I can help guide you through any situation to ensure that the photography is everything you dreamt of. I do it all with a smile and will not stop until I believe I have done you justice.
I am professional, organised and outgoing and just love the excitement and emotion that weddings and special events provide.

We are beyond excited to have John shoot our wedding next July. Yesterday he took us for a pre-wedding photo shoot where he suggested an excellent location and made us feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera! Which areas do you cover?
The priced packages generally include travelling expenses to anywhere within Sussex and most of Kent. However, I am more than happy to travel further if travelling expenses are met by the client.
When do we discuss the details of the wedding or event photography?
Once you have booked your day with me we can discuss the details whenever you like. You will initially receive a questionnaire which you will need to complete. This document then forms the basis for our next meeting which is typically in the form a ‘walk around’ at the venue in question. For weddings this can take place during a pre wedding shoot (which is FREE of charge if the Full Day PHOTO BOOK & USB shoot package is booked). Some clients prefer meeting at their home or place of work, some like to come to me. I consider myself part of your team and to make things run smoothly we can meet up wherever you feel comfortable.
How can we make the most of the photography on the day?
Once we have established the type of shots you would like and the surroundings we have to work with I produce a detailed ‘shot list’ which acts as a plan for the day.
How and when do I get my images after the event?
Usually images are provided through a password protected online gallery which will allow you to view, share and / or download (depending on package selected) all of the high-res images. This is usually around 2-3 weeks after the event but can be extended during busy periods. You can also order any printed photographs or canvases via the online gallery and they will be despatched straight to you. If you have ordered, or wish to order a photo book, you can highlight your favourite images on the online gallery. This will then allow me to design your photo book around your very best pictures. I can also supply your images to you on a high quality USB memory stick if you prefer.
How many images will I receive?
This depends on the package you select, however a half day wedding usually generates 250+ images and a full day approximately 450+. A typical 2-4 hour event will generate 100+ images. All images are high resolution.
What happens if its raining?
Don’t worry! I like the challenge and every venue has options for great photography come rain or shine. I have a variety of lighting equipment to cope with every situation and we can discuss a backup plan during the pre-event consultations.
What if I want you to stay longer than the agreed time on the day?
If you feel that you would like more of the late evening covered, additional attendance is charged at £90/hr plus any additional expenses.
Are you insured?
Yes, I have public liability, professional indemnity and photographic equipment insurance. All of my equipment is duplicated in case of a mechanical breakdown on the day (which has not happened to date!).
Who owns the images you produce?
Technically the copyright stays with John Scofield Photography however you are free to issue them to family and friends if they are not sold.
Do you work alone?
Generally yes, and I shoot with 3 cameras on me at all times. If you feel the need for a second photographer, for any reason, this can be arranged for an additional fee.
What happens if you are ill on the special day?
It won’t stop me attending unless its very serious and it hasn’t happened to date. I am able to call on other photographers in the event of such an issue arising.
