My name is Darren Gair and I live with my wife Clare, who I unfortunately gave a rhyming surname to as a wedding gift. We have 2 children; Amaya, who was named after a beach close to where we got married in Sri Lanka and Albie, who was named after my late Grandad.Based in the West Midlands, I shoot weddings right across the UK and beyond. Every wedding is unique and that’s why I bring no preconceptions to wedding venues others have been to before. It’s not about static objects, but the people and their emotions that make your day special, so capturing these moments are what my work is all about.

What can we say about Darren? From the first moment, we met him we knew instantly (even before we had seen his work) that we wanted him to be our photographer. His laid-back approach and documentary style was exactly what we wanted as two people who do not like having their photo taken. We met with Darren a few times before our big day and he made a massive effort to find out about us as individuals, as a couple and what we wanted for our big day. We were never rushed, Darren always made time for us, in fact our meetings always lasted hours as we would end up having a drink and chatting about everything and anything. Darren really went the extra mile to make our wedding day magical. He arrived bright and early and was there with us all day and most of the evening too. I have to credit Darren for the amount of time my husband and I got to spend together on the day. Everyone says to make sure you stand back and take it all in and to ensure that as bride and groom you actually get to see each other in the whirlwind that is your wedding day. Darren came to get us at several points during the day and whisked us off for ten our so minutes by ourselves, I will always cherish those memories (and the beautiful photographs that we have as a result) without Darren we would not have had those moments. After our big day Darren created a preview of nine photographs for us to see before our honeymoon which really was lovely to see so soon after the big day. By the time we got back from our honeymoon all of our wedding photographs we ready for us, I think the turnaround time is amazing and is a credit to how hard Darren works. The photographs are stunning! There is no other word for them. Darren has captured such beautiful moments of not just us but family and friends also. We were able to see our wedding day through fresh eyes viewing priceless moments that we had missed on the day itself. Whilst looking through the 500 plus images of our day my husband and I laughed, cried, reminisced and were able to tell each other little stories about each of our own experiences that we would otherwise have forgotten. As with everything there are things about our day that we would change if we were to do it again but Darren is most certainly not one of them. Darren is an amazing person with an amazing talent and we would like to thank him for being part of our big day and helping to make and keep such magical memories.

Do you do group shots?
Although you don’t tend to see these on my site, these are still very much a part of the normal wedding day so yes I do. Just bear in mind they are time consuming so my advise is always to keep these to the minimum allowing me more time to catch those real moments. I send out a questionnaire prior to the wedding date which allows you to list these down so we don’t miss any.
Can I have specific shots (shot lists)?
I am more than happy for specific shots of importance to be sent over, in fact I would encourage this for elements of importance or sentimental reasons I might not be aware of. Rest assured that all the key moments you would expect from the wedding day will get captured naturally so no need for a complete shot list.
Do I need a Second Shooter?
Although a nice to have these are not necessary. An additional photographer is great for large weddings or when you require dedicated bride and groom coverage in the morning. You also get extra images! I only use professional wedding photographers with availability for that date to ensure the very best quality.
Do you need to visit our venue?
I shoot weddings right across the UK and beyond so a venue visit is definitely not necessary. I like to bring no preconceptions to a wedding day so that I can tell your story as it happened. That said, whenever possible, I turn up nice and early to get a feel for the place and set the scene.
How are your images supplied?
First thing you will receive from me will be a link to an online slideshow, which is a lovely way to first view your images. Slideshow is set to music and is a condensed version of your full gallery. Under
the slideshow is password details to your online gallery which has all of your images (around 500+ for a typical wedding). You then receive your USB with 50 prints in the post.
We HATE having our Photo taken!
You are in great company there as this is usually one of the first things couples tell me when we discuss their wedding. Documentary style photography means you won’t be expected to pose and even with the portraits, I have techniques which allow you to be yourself without feeling under pressure to perform in front of camera.
How long before I get my pictures?
My typical turn around for your slideshow/online gallery is 4 weeks. I then need a further 2 weeks to organise prints and get your USB all packaged up and sent out to you.
What happens if you get ill?
I don’t get ill! In the very unlikely event that something very serious should happen to me then I am part of a national network of wedding photographers who club together for this very scenario. In this event, emergency cover can be organised at short notice.
Do you do group shots?
